Hudson Valley Figure Skating Club Goes to Regionals.
On October 9- 14, 2007 five ladies from the Hudson Valley Figure Skating Club competed in the North Atlantic Regional Figure Skating Championships in Jamestown, NY. Taylor Mc Knight, Danielle Stewart, and Brogan Kavanagh of Newburgh competed at the Intermediate level; AnnMary Bouchard of Marlboro competed at the Juvenile Level and Ksenia Makarova of Newburgh competed at the Novice level.
The qualifying rounds were grueling, Brogan Kavanagh, a 9th grade student at North Junior High, skated to victory finishing out with the Bronze medal qualifying her for the U.S. Junior National Championships which will be held in Columbus OH in November. Only 36 girls in the United States will qualify for Jr. Nationals. Ksenia Makarova, an 8th grade student at North Junior High, skated to victory clinching the gold medal in the Novice Division. Ksenia skated her personal best at Regionals with the silver medalist trailing behind her by almost 20 points. Ksenia has qualified for the Eastern Sectional in November.
HLFSC Hosted Figure Skating Clinic
In celebration of
National Skating Month 2006, HLFSC hosted a figure skating clinic conducted
by Olympic, World, and European Champion figure skaters Oleg Makarov and Larisa
Selezneva. This event took place at Bear Mountain Ice Rink, Bear Mountain, New
York from 8:15 am to 9:45 am on Sunday, January 22, 2006.
The pair figure skaters Oleg and Larisa were 1984 Olympic Bronze Medalists, 1985
World Silver Medalists, 1987 & 1989 European Gold Medalists, and five-time
Soviet National Gold Medalists. Also, they are proud coaches of four 2005 North
Atlantic Competition finalists, a 2006 Junior National competitor, two 2005
Junior National competitors, six 2005 Empire State Games finalists, and two 2005
Empire State Games medalists.
The clinic was open to all interested skaters at a fee of $10.00 for each
participant.
Hudson Valley Figure Skating goes to the State Games
Hudson Valley was well
represented at this years Empire State Games on February23-24. 2006.
The Club had 12 skaters compete in this years competition. As always
the girls had a great time. The opening ceremonies were inspiring not only
to the girls, but the parents as well. The events started off early
Saturday morning with Ksenia Makarova, Maggie Logan and Destiny Scott getting
Hudson Valley off to a great start in the Novice division. Junior
Ladies was next to skate and Gabrielle Vanderhoof finished an exciting 5th
place. Jordan Hartey was next to skate in Open Junior division and
finished an outstanding 1st place. The Intermediate Ladies was late
in the day and Hudson Valley had 7 skaters out of the
approximate 90 girls, broken into 5 groups, to skate in this division. The
excitement was intense. Lauren Dinsmore, Kaitlyn Burns,
Michele Marchant, Taylor McKnight, Alexis Morgan, Danielle Stewart and Brogan
Kavanagh skated
the evening away. Both Intermediate and Novice ladies had to qualify
for the championship round which would be skated on Sunday morning. Sunday
morning came very fast and Maggie Logan and Ksenia Makarova advanced to the
championship round , Novice division. Ksenia Makarova finished out
winning the gold medal and Maggie finished out an exciting 8th place.
Next to skate was Brogan Kavanagh who advanced to the championship round
in Intermediate. Brogan finished out as the silver medalist.
